Next Session:
Tuesdays 9:00-12:00, January 7, 2025 through February 11, 2025, six-week session. Classes generally run every six weeks from September through June with one week off in between sessions.
Tap into an extraordinary resource: the vibrant, vital force of your own creative character in a nurturing, encouraging, and safe environment and discover your distinctive path to oil painting. You only need bring the willingness to give up any attachment to feeling you have no talent or creativity. The focus of this workshop is to enjoy the creative experience and self nurturing qualities oil painting can provide to your soul. It offers a unique blend of learning the basics of oil painting materials, foundations of color theory, color mixing, composition and working with the flow of the creative process to awaken creative spirit, remember playfulness, and open a fuller expression of authentic self by nurturing your essence. Artist Jennings approaches teaching each student individually, so they can paint freely, at their own level, and paint a subject (landscape, still life, portrait, abstract, interior, etc. from life and/or from a photograph) befitting their skills and needs. The workshop can be used as a vehicle for expression, playing with paint, learning the techniques of oil painting, and/or to have instructional oil painting, which means you truly can be a beginner, intermediate, or simply get a feel for oil painting. All supplies will be provided or bring your own supplies if you prefer.
For students who have absolutely no background in painting and desire instructional painting, I recommend one or two private classes with me before jumping into a six-week session. If this isn’t feasible, I ask for patience, particularly on the first day, and for you to connect with me through email or phone at least one week before class. (LTryonJennings@gmail.com, 781-837-7982 landline)
There will be a still life set up. If you choose to paint a still life bringing a camera is helpful. Please feel free to bring in any photographs or other props if preferred. Simply playing with the paint is perfectly okay as well.
Make-up classes will be scheduled by the instructor only in the event they are cancelled due to weather or if the instructor cancels. No refunds will be made after one week of classes. Classes cannot be pro-rated. One class per session can be made up on Wednesdays at The Art Complex Museum in Duxbury, MA 9:00-12:00
In case of inclement weather or instructor cancellation there will be a make-up class scheduled after the last class of each session at the same facility and time.

Next Session:
Wednesdays 9:00-12:00, January 8, 2025 through February 12, 2025, six-week session. Classes generally run every six weeks from September through June with one week off in between sessions.
I approach teaching with each student individually, so they can paint freely, at their own level, and paint a subject (landscape, still life, portrait, abstract, interior, etc. from life and/or from a photograph) befitting their skills and needs. This allows a class for all skill levels. The classes are typically sprinkled with beginners, intermediates, and beyond students. I talk with each student new to painting before taking their first class to get a feel for what he or she would like to accomplish. This enables me to help guide his or her own unique creative strategies.
The class doesn’t run with a point A to point B style, although each session focuses on learning the basics of oil painting materials, foundations of color theory, color mixing, composition, and critique with individual demos catering to a style the student is trying to foster. Each class contains a relaxed, supportive, and encouraging atmosphere enabling the student to find a distinctive pathway to oil painting. For each session there is an optional assignment or challenge for those students who would like more direction and/or to discover a new technique. Often the class works on diverse paintings with a few students participating in the assignment or challenge. Class can also be used to learn helpful tips and techniques to help promote your art professionally.
For students who have no background in painting, I sometimes recommend one or two private classes with me before jumping into a six-week session. If this isn’t feasible, I ask for patience, particularly on the first day, and encourage you to contact me with your email and phone # so I can connect with you at least one week before class.
Make-up classes will be scheduled by the instructor only in the event they are cancelled due to weather or if the instructor cancels. Classes cannot be pro-rated. One class per session can be made up on Tuesdays at Hope Floats in Kingston, MA 9:00-12:00
In case of inclement weather or instructor cancellation there will be a make-up class scheduled after the last class of each session at the same facility and time.

Drop-In Class works like this…You can lock in your dates ahead of time or let me know the Monday before class if you’re going to make it (this ensures the class won’t be overcrowded and on the other spectrum, that it will run, or if you wake up in the mood to paint you can email or call me between 7:30 and 8:00 a.m. to see if the class will be held (as I need a certain number to run the class) and to be sure there’s room. Bring in whatever it is you’d like to paint. e.g., items for a still life, photo, or set up to do an interior, paint the ocean view, etc. If you can’t decide, bring in a couple of options and we can talk about the possibilities! This is a very casual and encouraging class with each student working on their own unique painting. All supplies will be provided. Feel free to bring your own supplies if you prefer. If you have never painted before, please call me ahead of time, so we can chat how I can best guide you. 781-837-7982
Private Mentor/Consulting
I’m currently offering one on one Private Mentor/Consulting sessions for either 30, 45, or 60 minutes depending on your desire. Mentor/Consulting tends to be more of a discussion about the work (e.g. working through a struggle, critique, strategizing, process, studio set up, art and business, etc.). It can be designed for any needs. It’s generally not painting time, other than maybe to paint something specific, to feel more confident moving forward, or to learn a particular technique. This can be designed for each individual as a private lesson as well. How does it work? Depending on your technical skills… either email or text me photos of your painting(s) 24 hours ahead of time. If meeting in person is not possible we can talk on the phone and discuss your work or connect virtually. Please contact me if interested. Laura@LTryonJennings.com
Mentor/Consulting Fee: 1 hour -$60, 3/4 hour -$45, 1/2 hour -$30
